Hello everyone,
I was recently prescribed doxycycline 100mg tablets for a bacterial infection. The instructions are to take two per day, one in the morning and one at night. However, I've been experiencing some mild nausea and dizziness after taking them. Is this normal? Should I be worried or just continue as directed? Also, could someone explain how long it usually takes for these tablets to start working?

Regarding other things to avoid while on doxycycline:
Avoid Taking With Dairy Products: While it can be helpful to take your medication with food or milk when experiencing nausea, do not consume dairy products (like milk, yogurt, and cheese) within two hours of taking the antibiotic. Calcium binds to doxycycline in the digestive tract and reduces its absorption.
Stay Out of Sunlight: Doxycycline can increase sensitivity to sunlight (photosensitivity), which means you should avoid direct sunlight and tanning beds while on this medication, as well as for two weeks after finishing your course. If you must be outside, wear protective clothing or sunscreen with at least SPF 30.
Avoid Alcohol: While not strictly contraindicated, it's best to limit or avoid alcohol consumption during antibiotic treatment to prevent any potential interactions that could reduce the effectiveness of the medication and potentially exacerbate side effects like nausea.
