Hi everyone,
I've been struggling with severe acne for years and my dermatologist recommended that I try Accutane. However, the cost in my local pharmacy is a bit steep, so I was wondering if anyone has experience purchasing Accutane from Indian pharmacies? Specifically, the 40mg dosage.
Thanks in advance!

Hello SunnySkies,
I understand your concern about the cost of Accutane. However, I need to advise you on a few things before you consider purchasing it from an Indian pharmacy:
Regulation and Safety: Ensure that the pharmacy is legitimate and regulated by the appropriate health authorities in India. This is crucial for safety reasons.
Dosage Consistency: The dosage (40mg) should be consistent, as even slight variations can affect its efficacy and your overall health.
Prescription Necessity: Always get a prescription from a licensed doctor before taking Accutane. It’s an important medication that requires careful monitoring due to potential side effects and interactions with other medications.
If you have any further questions or need more advice, feel free to ask!

Hi DermDoc,
Thanks for the detailed response. I will definitely ensure that I purchase from a regulated and legitimate pharmacy.
I also have another concern — is there anything else I should be aware of while taking Accutane? My dermatologist mentioned something about potential side effects, but I’m not sure what to expect.

Hello SunnySkies,
Great question. Here are a few key points regarding the use of Accutane:
Side Effects: Common side effects include dry skin, lips, and eyes; nosebleeds; and muscle aches. More serious potential side effects can include changes in mood, depression, and increased risk of infection.
Liver Function Monitoring: Regular blood tests to check liver function are necessary due to the medication's impact on your liver.
Pregnancy Risks: If you are female and sexually active, it’s crucial not to get pregnant while taking Accutane as it can cause severe birth defects. Effective contraception must be used during treatment and for a month afterward.
Sun Sensitivity: Be cautious in the sun as Accutane makes your skin more sensitive to sunlight.
Make sure to discuss these points with your dermatologist, who will provide personalized advice based on your health history. Regular follow-ups are essential to monitor your progress and any potential side effects.
